The Zero Hunger in Schools Program is a United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA New South Wales Division), Capgemini, and the Local Community Services Association initiative that aims to reduce food waste and provide food to families and children in need.
The program also recently received the support of students from Western Sydney University who created graphic design and social media assets to help with promotion.
The program works with local schools and community centres to connect donors with food that would otherwise be thrown away.
The program aims to divert good food and other items from landfill to children and families in need. Through a digital solution called Yum Yum, the program connects donors with local schools and community centres, facilitating arrangements for pick-up or delivery.
The innovative solution, designed by Capgemini is now making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
These children, many of whom come from recently arrived refugee families, have received much-needed support they might not have had access to otherwise.
The YumYum app is an online web application designed to connect individuals and organisations with excess food with hungry children in schools.
The app has successfully connected food providers, community centres, and schools in New South Wales, providing nourishment to underprivileged children.
By bridging the gap between food providers, community centres, and schools, the YumYum app ensures that no child goes hungry.
The Zero Hunger in Schools program fosters a culture of responsibility and care, creating a ripple effect that benefits communities, the environment, and the economy.
Feeding school children in need of food tackles hunger and provides them with the nourishment they need to thrive and focus on education instead of an empty stomach.
The positive feedback and satisfaction from participants demonstrate the effectiveness of the solution and its potential to make a lasting change.

Introduction to Women, Peace and Security
Gender equality is the number one predictor of peace – more so than a state’s wealth, level of democracy, or religious identity. Driven by civil society campaigning for action on gender equality, in 2000 the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 1325. In doing so, Member States formally acknowledged that conflicts and crises impact the lives of women and girls differently, significantly and disproportionately, to that of men and boys.
Resolution 1325 consists of four pillars – participation, protection, prevention, and relief and recovery. It urges Member States to increase the representation of women at all decision-making levels in national, regional and international institutions and mechanisms for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.
